The Legend of Finian’s Gold

Finian was a resourceful Irish lad and determined to have a good life for himself.  One day, he caught sight of a leprechaun.  He kept its gaze and followed it near and far until he reached what he was after - a crock of gold.  Finian snatched that crock and set himself to a quick getaway.

Well that leprechaun was not pleased at all and vowed to ne’er rest until he got his gold back.  Finian decided it was bet for him to leave Ireland and hide out in another place.  He caught himself a rainbow (well really it was a jet plane) across the great sea to America.  He was not sure where to make his new home until he found the city of black and gold.

In Pittsburgh, he lived a merry life and spread his fortune about town - a little gold here and a little gold there.  He never wore a frown and was quick to buy a new friend a pint, saying, “Here’s to being single, drinking doubles, and seeing triple.”

Now old Finian is gone, but his legend and his gold remains.  That rascal leprechaun followed him here as well and he wants it back.  Oh, he has been seen in Pittsburgh alright, searching here and there for the gold that Finian spent.

But why should he take it back?  Lads and lassies it is now your turn to claim Finian’s gold if you choose to go your way on this merry adventure this St. Paddy’s Day.

Be wise though my resourceful friends and heed these two warnings.  First be wary of that leprechaun for he is a tricky little fellow.  Second, that gold is magical and will be gone come St. Paddy’s day.

Now I toast to you as you depart on this quest.  May the luck of the Irish be at your back and may you find a few coins in your pocket
