From an article titled ‘Recession Proof Your Business’ by Ron Romano:
Recession Proof Your Business – How to Avoid Business Failure & Increase Sales in a Lagging Economy
When you’re a small business owner there’s no “Golden Parachute”, no Massive Severance Package or Stock Options to cash in on and there are definitely no bailouts. The success or failure of your small business is all on your shoulders!
Here’s Are 5 Things to Do If You Want Your Business to Fail During a Recession
Don’t Do Anything
Don’t Do Enough
Don’t Encourage Referrals From Other Clients
Don’t Create a “WOW” Experience
Don’t Take Massive Action Now
Do those 5 things apply to you? In January of this year we discussed social media in the time of a recession. The economy was already looking a little bumpy at that time. Were we a good forecaster? No. We never expected it to be this shaky as we close the year in look into 2009.
This what we said about social media:
Social Media Marketing is an excellent investment during a recession. It may be the best vehicle to deliver your messages in an easy to swallow manner for a tighter wallet.
These are some of the reasons why we think social media will be an effective marketing tool during these shaky times:
As discussed in the past 3 posts, traditional is shifting to online.
- There is a cost savings in many cases with this shift.
- More importantly, there is a chance for the wow factor as you reach consumers on a more personal level.
- Consumers are increasingly going online for entertainment (Saves on gas, movies are expensive, etc.)
- Video costs have decreased dramatically and there is a large distribution outlet
- Social media is measurable
If you feel lost
If your budget is under scrutiny
If you don’t want to do the same thing over and over
Consider social media in your marketing plans for 2009.
