Egaging Content & SEO

Link building is a key tactic in search engine optimization.  There are good tactics to link building that will deliver results and there are some tactics that will just plain land you in hot water with the search engines and you may not be able to recover.

In this blog, we often write about how content is king.  With SEO it is no different.  Creating engaging content is a good tactic for SEO and a foundation of link building activities.

Ask the question: Why would anyone want to link to your site?

The answer would be you have something of interest and that means engaging content.  This can come in many forms.

It could be informative:

  • Editorial
  • Research
  • Technical Papers
  • Tools
  • Software
  • Valuable resources

It can be entertaining:

  • Multimedia
  • Podcasts
  • Videos
  • Humor
  • Contests
  • Free Swag

The key is to make it engaging, interesting and valuable to an audience.

After you have the appropriate content, don’t forget to get the word out.  Utilize press releases, which can also create a link back to your site from a variety of places.   Find bloggers that would find your content of interest and politely let them know about it.  Don’t forget to integrate where appropriate with traditional marketing programs as well.

NOTE: SEO has gotten a bit of press in the last couple weeks.  In fact, some have even said SEO (as we know it) is dead.  We will cover SEO topics and news for much of this week in this space and feel free to comment with your opinion as well.
