Social Networks - Meet Motortopia
Each week on this blog, we take a look at social networking opportunities beyond MySpace, Facebook or YouTube. This week we go from moms to motors as we feature Motortopia, a social network site for your car, bike, boat or plane.
Motortopia appeals to motor enthusiasts, a large and passionate demographic niche. We love our cars and take pride in them. There are car clubs, car cruises, not to mention the lucrative classic car auctions and sporting events that capture our attention.
Motorotpia brings the common interests of these people together into a community. Your profile is your “garage” on the site. From the garage you can interact with other members share photos, post blogs, and leave comments similar to other social network sites. Motortopia puts itself in the motor space by allowing users to also find and sell parts, rate
other vehicles, and participate in “challenges”.
A challenge is the site’s version of a race war. It pits 2 vehicles against each other and then other members vote based on style and other criteria. There is also a leader board ranking the top challengers.
The social network is also a model of accessibility for web 2.0. Even if you are not a motor junkie, we recommend checking it out for its technical abilities as well.
