Online Video - HR Recruiting Potential

Today’s post is for the HR professional, specifically recruiting of candidates.  We know your company is more than its job description.  We also know that a candidate is more than a few keywords on a piece of paper.  Online video can bridge the gap between employer and prospective employee.

Online video offers several HR recruiting advantages.  First and foremost, take a look at your audience.  If you are looking for candidates just out of college then social media is definitely where you want to be.  The job websites are crowded and limit the amount of things you can do to showcase your opportunities.  Using online video in conjunction with social media outlets can solve this deficiency of information.

The second advantage is that online video is dynamic.  You can highlight what a great place your company is to work for and how exceptional the opportunity may be.  This will allow you to attract higher quality candidates.

The third advantage is online video is interactive.  Recruiting is the ultimate in user generated content.  Users are delivering a part of themselves when that resume is attached.   If you are willing to take the time, online video can shorten the screening process, particularly if you allow users the ability to upload more than a resume.

This leads us to our final topic - fun.  Think about the potential for recruiting with online video.  Include screening questions with your video and invite video responses.  Utilize online video casting or chatting sites to interview in real time.  Be entertaining.  How about an ‘Office’ spoof that has your openings listed at the end.  There are many possibilities for our HR folks out there.

This post wraps up our series on online video.  There are many more topics we can cover, so expect video to pop up in the future in this space.  Tomorrow, we will end the week with some recently released search engine optimization numbers.
